Milan Tickets: What to Book First and What Each Option Includes

Updated:

Sforza Castle at dusk, its brick tower and walls silhouetted against a blue and pink sky, with a lit fountain throwing water up in the foreground.

In short. The six main sights of Milan do not work in the same way, so the first choice is not the product but the order in which you book. The Last Supper comes first: entry is by reserved turn for every visitor, tickets are sold on set dates and each one carries a name. Brera needs a reservation, Duomo tickets carry a date and a time slot, and the Sforza Castle and the La Scala museum need no reservation from individual visitors. Below you find the kinds of option that exist for each sight and what their cards list. We read the rules on 24 October 2026.

The cards for these products are on the ticket pages of the Duomo, the Last Supper, the Sforza Castle, Brera, the Science Museum and the La Scala museum. Each card shows its own details, and for hours and rules the site of each sight is the reference.

What to book first

This order follows from the rules each sight publishes.

  1. The Last Supper. Booking is compulsory for everyone, children and free-entry visitors included. Tickets are on sale only on set dates, in quarterly blocks: September to December 2026 opened on 23 June 2026, and January to April 2027 were not yet on sale when we read the site. Extra tickets appear online every Wednesday at 12:00 for the following week. The ticket is in your name, cannot be refunded, and date, time and name cannot be changed. Visits run in turns of 15 minutes for at most 40 people, and you must be at the ticket office 30 minutes before your turn.
  2. Brera and the Duomo. Brera needs a reservation with date and time. Duomo and rooftop tickets carry a date and a time slot, with 30 minutes of tolerance either side.
  3. The Science Museum. At weekends the museum says that access is not guaranteed to visitors who have not bought online with a date and time.
  4. The Sforza Castle and the La Scala museum. No reservation is required from individual visitors.

If you know your dates, fix the Last Supper first and plan the other days around it. The Last Supper, the Castle, Brera and the Science Museum are closed on Mondays (the Science Museum except on holidays): see the Last Supper hours and the hours pages of the other sights.

Choosing between the options

The Last Supper: the cards list guided visits only

The Last Supper products on the cards are guided visits run by tour operators. Entry is in timed turns for everyone, so a guided visit does not give a separate lane. We could not verify how many places the operators hold. The reservation rules, the release dates and the museum’s own guided visits are in how to book the Last Supper.

La Scala: the museum and the tours are different things

The museum ticket does not include a guided tour. The museum offers its own tour of the Theatre, with museum entry, for 60 minutes on days with no rehearsals or events, and says that only its own guides may take visitors into the auditorium. We could not verify whether the tours enter it, so we do not describe them as a visit to the auditorium: read the included and excluded lists on the card. Our La Scala museum page has the hours and what the museum shows.

What changes between the sight’s own ticket and the card

Dates, time slots and entry rules stay the same, because the sight decides them. What differs is the card: delivery on your phone, the language of the page and the cancellation terms. Check them before paying; each ticket page has the cards and a link to the sight’s site for hours and rules.

Which Milan ticket should I book first?

The Last Supper. Entry is by reserved time slot for every visitor, in turns of 15 minutes for at most 40 people. The museum releases tickets on set dates, in quarterly blocks, and adds more online every Wednesday at 12:00 for the following week. The ticket carries a name and cannot be refunded or changed.

What is the difference between a plain entry ticket and a guided visit?

A plain entry card lists only admission, sometimes with an extra such as the rooftop or a phone audio guide. A guided visit lists a live guide, usually a headset and a set length, from about 1 hour to half a day for city tours. For the Last Supper the cards list guided visits only, so the question does not arise there. Check the included and excluded lists on each card.

Do I need to book the Sforza Castle and the La Scala museum in advance?

Not for individual visitors: neither requires a reservation. The La Scala museum also has an Open ticket valid for one entry on a day of your choice until 31 December 2026.
