Book tickets and visits →The Comune’s official site shows a notice, read on 24 October 2026, saying that on 30 October 2026 access to the museum might not be allowed, or might be allowed only to some sections, because of a national strike. The Castle’s notices page is the place to check just before you go.
Entry is free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month. According to the Comune’s official site there is no online sale on that day, so the ticket is collected at the desk. Counting from the calendar, the next ones are Sunday 1 November and Sunday 6 December 2026 (our calculation).
On the second Tuesday of the month entry is free for visitors up to 25 years old, which for the coming months means 10 November and 8 December 2026 (our calculation). We could not confirm other free days, such as 25 April or 2 June.
The Castle gives no exception for 24 and 31 December, Easter (28 March 2027), 25 April, 2 June, 15 August or 8 December, so the normal rule applies, but we could not confirm any notice for those days. Easter Monday is closed because it is a Monday. We did not find any announced Monday opening.
The Merlate Panoramiche are a separate route along the battlements, open Tuesday to Sunday, with the last entry at 17:00 and groups of up to 25 every 20 minutes. The ticket is separate from the museums’ and the route is reached by a dedicated lift, so it is open to all ages.
The museums have no evening hours. The Castle does list paid evening visits of its “percorsi segreti”: a Merlate tour on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November 2026 at 21:00, and the Sotterranei tour on Saturday 31 October at 19:30 and Sunday 1 November at 17:30 and 19:30. The Merlate tour is for ages 8 and over and the Sotterranei tour for ages 10 and over. We did not read the booking conditions.
Allow time before 16:30: the last entry is a full hour before closing. Free visitors must still collect a free ticket. Animals are admitted only to the outdoor spaces; in the museums only guide dogs are allowed.
A few lockers are available in the entrance hall of the Pietà Rondanini museum. We could not confirm the rules on bags, photos or food, or how long a visit takes, because the Castle does not state them on the pages we read.
